St. John’s Episcopal Church, titled St. John's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in this photograph, started as a wooden structure in 1912. In 1924, according to a written history on the churches’ website, ground was broken on the present building and completed in 1928 at a cost of $60,000. This photo, taken in 1930, shows the bell tower and side façade that still exists today.

In the 1949, parishioners funded new facilities that added a wing to the existing structure for a new parish hall and school building. The church remains a vibrant part of the community and the Episcopal Parish Day School is a highly acclaimed educational facility.
